52 Weeks of Yes Month Two! Cherry Blossoms, Aerial Yoga & Reiki

I’m 8 weeks into my 52 Weeks of Yes! This month, I visited our nations capital to see the spectacular display of cherry blossom trees, took my first yoga class then moved on to aerial yoga, and met with a reiki master (you won’t believe what she claimed to have done)! Join me on my journey as I share with you 52 Weeks of Yes Month Two!

I’m using the official Kelly Elko wine glass system to rate my 52 Weeks of Yes experiences. 10 wine glasses means it was a thrill of a lifetime while a lowly one wine glass means I would rather have bamboo shoots shoved underneath my fingernails!

Week 5 – Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC

Weekend in Washington DC kellyelko.com #washingtondc #travel #travelblogger #vacation #cherryblossoms

I’ve always wanted to see the famous cherry blossoms in Washington, D.C. so it was fun to plan a quick weekend getaway to see the stunning blooms during peak season.

You can read all about my weekend in Washington, D.C. here.

I thought this tree was the perfect example of a true survivor!

I enjoyed Washington, D.C. so much! There is so much to do and the cherry blossoms were the pink icing on the unicorn shaped cake!

Verdict: 10 wine glasses

Week 6 – Yoga

Aerobics, weight lifting, kickboxing, barre, spinning, boot camp. You name it, I’ve probably done it but for some reason I’ve never tried yoga. I’ve always thought of it as being too slow paced. I decided to take a beginner yoga class to learn some basic movements and breathing techniques.

I loved it! It made me slow down and focus on my movements but it was still challenging and quite the workout!

Week 7 – Aerial Yoga

I flew through the air with the greatest of ease. Well ok, maybe I wasn’t that graceful but I had a blast trying aerial yoga! I loved my beginner yoga class so much, I decided to take it up a notch.

If you’re like me and get seasick or queasy on long car rides, aerial yoga is not for you! While it was fun, it made both my friend Sarah and I so nauseous! The instructor told us that people who are prone to motion sickness may feel ill during class. We had to limit our spinning and upside turns because they were making us feel like we had to hurl our cookies but the other showoff, I mean gal, in the class (it was also her first time) was spinning and hanging and twirling  all over the place and left feeling fresh as a daisy.

I would definitely recommend this fun workout (I felt a good soreness for days after) to anyone who isn’t a wimp like me!

Verdict: 3 wine glasses

Week 8 – Reiki

Reiki is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the patient through touch to activate the natural healing of the body.

My friend Sarah seems to be my 52 Weeks of Yes! partner in crime because she is now seeking out new things for us to experience. So when she told me about a meditation and reiki workshop at a local boutique, I said why the heck not.

It was a gathering of a great group of women and our leader was a “reiki master”. She led us in a guided meditation that I really enjoyed and then she touched each of us on our foreheads (that was the Reiki part!) to help us relax our facial muscles. We then did a walking meditation (we walked around the tiny boutique while trying to stay focused on our meditative state). I found this to be super awkward and needless to say all I could think about was the cute jewelry for sale!

My open mindedness flew out the window when she told us SHE CURED HER SISTER’S CANCER!

She claims that four doctors diagnosed the cancer so she worked her reiki magic on her sister. When doctors performed surgery soon after, they realized it wasn’t cancer, just a massive growth. Sounds like a Lifetime movie ending.

I’m not saying Reiki isn’t something that may help promote healing but I am saying if this lady can cure cancer, she should be making her rounds to every single cancer clinic in the country to work her miracles. Here is an affiliate Reiki book for beginners that explains it in more detail.

Verdict: 0 wine glasses (maybe it would be better with a reiki master who doesn’t claim to be God).

  1. Your certainly trying a very wide variety, which sounds like a lot of fun, am glad you have someone to partner with,” two heads are better than one”.

  2. I am loving following along with your adventures. I almost decided to try my own 52 weeks of yes, but realized it’s better to just wait for your reviews. I am inspired to try Arial Yoga, there is a place a few miles from to try It, but I am worried I might be the one who can’t drive home after die to extreme dizziness 😂
Hope you are having a wonderful Mother’s Day!

  3. Aerial yoga sounds like so much fun. My daughter tried it with a friend and loved it but I tried to use aerial silks at a jump place we went to and it is so much harder than it looks!!
