I’ve jumped on the decoupage bandwagon – thanks to Martha Stewart Decoupage.

It all started with this beauty.

I’ve come a long way from my kindergarden days when I created decoupaged masterpieces that my mother was forced – I mean thrilled – to display.

I probably ate most of the decoupage paste but didn’t we all (or was that just me)?

Anyway, enough reminiscing about my paste eating days.

I may have been living under a rock because I had no idea that this new decoupage medium is dishwasher safe and waterproof!

Forget about a boring old guest bathroom drinking glass – let’s impress our guests with this!

Decoupage Drinking Glass – Waterproof & Dishwasher Safe

1) Clean a drinking glass with soap and water (I got mine from the dollar store)

2) Use rubbing alcohol to remove any residue from the glass

3) Put a 1″ piece of patterning tape at the top of the glass (so you won’t come into contact when drinking)

4) Roll the decoupage medium on the table – don’t shake (to avoid air bubbles)

5) Apply a thin layer of Martha Stewart Matte Decoupage Medium to the entire glass (thin is the key)

6) Apply a thin layer of the decoupage medium to your paper cut-out – press and smooth from the center to the outer edges to remove any air bubbles and excess decoupage medium

7) Keep adding cut-outs until your masterpiece is achieved

8) Allow to dry 1-2 hours

9) When dry, apply a thin layer of decoupage medium to the entire surface of the glass (up to the patterning tape) making sure to seal the edges of the cut-outs then allow to dry for two hours.

10) Apply a second coat of decoupage medium over the entire glass and allow to dry for two more hours

11) Let the glass air dry for 21 days to cure when it will be top rack dishwasher safe!

Note:  The glass will take on a frosted look with the decoupage medium – which I love!

Ps…..my friend just told me about the Stormville flea market around Hopewell Junction. They have a show in early October! We should go! Only about 40 min away I think : )

  2. Your glass look so pretty, lots better than a plain one. I’ll have to check out glasses at $tree. We have two of them Grand Junction, both seem to have different products at times. Would be fun to try this and I love the frosted look the decoupage glue puts on the glass.
I have a nice sized glass plate that would work so nicely with this technique. I also have some wood plates I could use. Been trying to decide what I’d use them for since I got the wood plates at thrift store awhile ago. Can hardly wait to get to Michaels to get the decoupage papers and the decoupage glue. Hopefully our Michaels will have all the products at hand. Sometimes the Michaels in Grand Junction is slow to get new products.

  3. Seriously Kelly, you can give John Derian some serious competition!!! Love this one too! BTW, my new kitchen is done, check it out if you have the time!!! So excited! 🙂

  4. I decoupaged a vase for MIL, labels back onto old wood grocery crates, but never thought of glass ware. I used a competitor though, tsk, tsk. Add that to the list of “I want to do” once I get my desk back–story for another post or three. Looks great.

  6. Hi there I absolutely loved the video’s I have seen so far sooo beautiful & creative. I am fresh in the water / a beginner with decoupage and have brought sooo many things to use as a top coat and am getting very confused with all the different videos and suggestions I now have a whole cupboard full of different glues etc… and my savings have taken a real bashing ;-( I have mixed decoupage with painting on glass but my new project is glitter glasses so again watched too many videos got too many suggestions & another cupboard full of different glues etc… I ordered of course the most expensive glue because it said it was specifically for glass and a tiny bottle cost me £17. OUCH. I am so confused as the decoupage glass & porcelain glue says to put glass in oven 160c for 30 mins. But not one video shows anyone doing this . I am exhausted with it. Please please can anyone let me know if I should or should not put in the oven & what is the best to top coat a glass so it feels smooth and is okay to drink from & wash. I know its not exactly decoupage but was hoping to combine the 2 together once I get better at it. Please can anyone advise me I would very much appreciate it my email is [email protected]

  7. Hello I was wondering what you meant about the timing of the medium to keep from getting air bubbles
