Blog Changes and Where to Find Me
I started this blog in September, 2011 … almost 13 years ago! It’s the best thing I ever did for myself and I have had so many amazing opportunities and made some really good friends along the way not to mention the connections I have formed with you when you leave comments on this blog!
Blogging was a small community back then and it seemed like everyone in the home decor niche knew each other, helped each other, collaborated with each other and genuinely cheered each other on.
Me at the Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach Florida
Now, it seems like the world revolves around social media. Attention spans have waned and everyone wants to swipe to look at the next shiny thing.
And to make matters worse, artificial intelligence (AI) has entered the picture. AI gathers information from real people (me included) and regurgitates that information without the need for people to actually visit our blogs.
AI entering the picture means less people will find my posts through web searches (Google prioritizes AI before real, human experts) and I fear I won’t be able to continue blogging as much as I have because I can’t devote as much time to something that isn’t giving as much as it’s taking.
Plus, the older I get, I find I want to live life more and write about it less.
Making Changes
Did you know that I spent the winter in Florida?! Probably not, because I didn’t blog about it but I shared lots on my Instagram.
In Florida, I decided to get serious about losing the extra weight that had crept up on me over the last five years (since my back surgery). Slowly but surely, the weight has been coming off (I am down 25 lbs with 20 more to go). I walked a lot, I ate better and am focusing on protein, I snacked less, but I still had cocktails LOL (I said the weight is coming off slowly)!
Where to Find Me
Fear not, I don’t plan on shutting down this blog any time soon but I will be slowing way down (you may have noticed less emails from me in the last year or so).
Good News! There are ways we can keep in touch on a more consistent basis!
LTK (Like to Know It) App – Kelly.Elko
LTK is an app where people like me share their favorite things that you can shop. I’ve been part of LTK for years but didn’t really share much on the app. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been having so much fun sharing things that I love including clothes, accessories, favorites around my house and garden, travel essentials and more.
Follow me Kelly.Elko on the LTK App Here
You can shop your favorites, get sale alerts and even leave comments/questions for me in the app!
I think it’s going to be a fun way to stay in touch with you on a more consistent basis!
Linen Shorts / Button Down Shirt / Crossbody Bag / Sandals
I took a trip to the Finger Lakes in upstate NY (blog post coming soon!) a couple of weeks ago and when I saw the door to our B&B stole my look, I had to take a pic!
One great thing about getting older is giving 0 F’s about what people think! I’m learning to embrace my flaws (including my thighs!).
Can you believe these are the first pair of shorts I have bought in YEARS! They are so flattering that I bought 3 pairs in different colors. The shirt comes in lots of colors too.
Shop my Floral Jeans Look on LTK
Floral Jeans / Raffia Kitten Heels
I love sharing videos in the LTK app too! If you click the Shop my Look on LTK link above, you’ll see the video I made (in the cutest pair of $28 floral jeans)!
Shorts Romper / Long Pant Romper / Crochet Sandals / Snake Ring
Another pair of shorts … who am I?!
I love a romper for simplicity. No need to figure out what to wear because it’s one piece. (ok, going to the bathroom is a bit of a challenge)!
I of course got it in the long pants denim version and the long linen too. I share sizing info and all the different versions of the romper on the LTK app.
Shop my PJ Pants and Graphic Tee Look on LTK
Floral PJ Pants / NYC T-Shirt / Crossbody Bag / Sandals
Just because I’m trying not to live in leggings doesn’t mean I don’t want to be comfortable. Can you believe these floral, flowy pants are actually pajama bottoms?!
Shop my Camo and Crochet Look on LTK
Cargo Pants / Crochet Top / Silver Wedges
I wore camo pants in the 90’s so when I saw them come back into style, I was a little reluctant to embrace them. Once I tried on this pair of $30 cargo pants, I was hooked and got them in three colors including this cute gray camo (on sale now).
Cargo Pants (lots of colors)
I told you I bought more than one pair of cargos!
I was visiting my sister when we stopped at this scenic pond-side location to take some pics. I’m pointing like a dork because a bald eagle flew right over my head!
Shop my Black, White & Red all Over Look on LTK
Bike Shorts / Striped Top (clearance) / Sneakers / No Blister Socks! / Bag
I vowed to stop living in leggings, but these bike shorts (8″ inseam) are perfect for errands (and they have pockets!) when paired with an oversize button-down shirt. I love a pop of red too and these sneakers update any outfit.
TIP! If you get BLISTERS when wearing new shoes like I do, you must try these no blister socks! I was doubtful but they really work!
I’ll be sharing way more than clothes too so if you want to follow along, I encourage you to follow me in the LTK App Here.
You can also find me on Instagram @Kelly.Elko where I love sharing photos and videos of my daily life.
I have started sharing different things on insta (not just home decor) including a PSA about a heart test I just took (see the video here).
Blog
I’ll still be blogging, just less, so be on the lookout for emails from me.
If you got this far, thanks for reading!
In other news, Sushi turned 10 years old a few weeks ago … and her birthday gift was getting a pacemaker (you can see the scar on her neck in the pic above)!
She’s doing well and still acts like a puppy and tolerates her tiara (made for cats but fits her little head)!
I welcome your comments and reply to every single one!
Don’t worry, I plan to share recaps of my favorite finds here on the blog too but you can also follow me on LTK for first look!
Aww, sweet little girl. Love that you got her a pacemaker. We lost our 15 year old Yorkie in January. Miss her dreadfully, she was my darling baby.
Oh no I’m so sorry to hear about your little Yorkie Jillian! Losing a pet is one of the hardest things in the world. I hope you are doing ok.
Have always loved following you. I am reading other places the challenges you are facing. Will support you all I can. Look forward to any content you post. I enjoy LTK and Instagram.
Thanks so much Rhonda! That means so much to me! The world changes and we have to adapt with it!!
Hi I love following along and saw you were a snow bird this year! How fun! I will continue to follow along with all your creativity!
Sushi loved being a snowbird because she hates the cold! The only bad thing was I couldn’t dress her up in her cute sweaters!
I honestly noticed how freaking fabulous you looked, but I don’t like to comment on people’s bodies so much. But since you are bringing it up, YOU LOOK FREAKING FABULOUS. I am so happy for you!!! You don’t look like you have 20 more to go — you are there!!!!
One of our dogs also turned 10 this year and the other will turn 9 this fall. Time just moves too quickly.
Tell me more!! Thanks so much Cassie! You’ve been on this blogging journey with me for a long time so you know the struggle. I’m so happy that you found your calling and are doing something that makes you so happy! Here’s to more time with friends, family and our dogs!
You need more shorts, you have great legs! I didn’t know they even had pacemakers for dogs! We have 3 senior pugs, oldest is almost 16. I admit, I miss your posts, but just because our styles are closely aligned and you like quirky fun items! Looks like you’re living your best life and I’m happy for you!
I love pugs Mary! Any dog with a squishy little face has my heart! I hope Sushi lives to be at least 16 and hope your babies live long, healthy lives.
Sushi looks so cute, hope that pacemaker helps. Glad to hear from you but, I have been busy so easier for me to see people on Instagram. Have a wonderful day and congratulations on losing weight, that is hard.
I love hearing from you Marlene! Glad we can connect here and on social media! Sushi sends kiisses!
So glad to see you embracing aging. I think it’s so important to let who we really are shine! Happy Birthday sweet Sushi!
Sushi is truly embracing her double digits Lisa!!
