Coming in Hot! – Volume 1
It’s time to embrace our hotness! We 40 and 50+ women are HOT … literally (these hot flashes are no joke)! But instead of focusing on the negatives of aging (sleeplessness, weight gain, chin hairs!), let’s focus on the positives (clearer priorities, less worrying about what people think of us, more time to pursue dreams and hobbies and let’s not forget that amazing thing called the senior discount)! “Coming in Hot!” is the perfect name for my new weekly series where I’ll be sharing all the things I am loving plus peeks into my home, updates on what’s going on in my life (including a medical test we all need to take) and anything else interesting that I want to share with you!
A SIMPLE HEART SCREENING TEST
Heart Calcium Score Test
Have you heard of a heart calcium score test? I’m a big believer that we all need to be proactive about our health, especially as we age. When I heard about this quick and painless test, I asked my doctor about it.
The heart calcium score test is a specialized X-ray that detects and measures plaque buildup lining the walls of your coronary arteries.
Plaque buildup narrows the arteries, restricts blood flow to the heart and ultimately can lead to a heart attack if left unchecked.
My score was 10 and my husband scored over 300 and our friend over 1,200 (this is one test you want to score a 0 on). My doctor recommended I see a cardiologist to discuss treatment options and he wants me to start taking a statin.
My cardiologist said anyone over the age of 40 should get tested. Note that insurance did not cover the cost so I had to pay $99 (money well spent)!

I’ve shared these $28 floral jeans before but since I practically live in them, I thought another pic was warranted.
My crochet sandals have a cushiony sole and are so comfortable! I went on a day long tour of wineries in the finger lakes wearing these and my feet thanked me!
Small Space Table
I joke that this is my husband’s hospital table! Our family room is small and there is no room for a table on “his side” of the sofa, so enter the C-Table!
The legs slide under the sofa and it doesn’t take up much space but has plenty of room for a remote, a drink and even a laptop!
And if you are a blue and white lover like me, you’ll love my stainless steel tumbler that’s good for hot or cold drinks.
BLISTER PREVENTION!
Do you get blisters when breaking in new sneakers? I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to wear my new Samba sneakers but I found the solution … these no-blister socks have compression and padding and really work!
The socks are a little pricy but I was able to walk all day in my new sneakers without a blister in sight!
Style Tip
A pair of trendy sneakers will update any outfit and you’ll magically appear younger and hipper!

STATEMENT JEWELRY!
Life’s too short to wear boring jewelry! I love a big, bold, statement ring and this chunky brass and crystal Snake Ring (on sale at almost 50% off) is stunning!

My sister and I were cracking when we went to dinner and she was tasked with taking pics (mostly blurry!) of my ring!
LET’S PAINT!
Learning new things keeps us young! I haven’t painted in decades so it was fun to take a local watercolor class with a few friends.
My favorite is the melting ice cream cone! To create the drips, I added a glob of very watery paint then held the paper up until a couple of drips formed. I painted the cone around them!
I’m going to keep practicing so I ordered this complete watercolor set that comes with everything (paint, paper, brushes, sponges) I need to create a masterpiece!
