Movie Night and a Big Bowl of Popcorn and $100 Gift Card Giveaway

I have a confession to make.

When I was newly married, I didn’t cook and my poor hubby would often come home to find me munching on a bag of microwave popcorn for dinner while he was left wondering what he would be eating.  Hey, I’m not proud – that was a long time ago!

Perfect Pop app - tells you when you popcorn is ready!

I’m still addicted to popcorn.

I’m also addicted to movie nights.  There’s nothing better than curling up under a furry blanket with my girls with a giant bowl of buttery goodness.

But there’s nothing worse than a burned bag of popcorn (yes, I’ve burned many bags and have had to live with the scorched stink during the movie).

So I’ve combined my love for popcorn with my love for apps and discovered this fun little app from Pop Secret that my girls love!  It’s called Perfect Pop and it listens to my microwave and lets me know when my popcorn is popped to perfection!  Download your own Perfect Pop app on the App Store here.

It’s so funny to watch the spinning popcorn kernel as he swirls faster and faster and goes from yellow to red … so you’ll know when your popcorn is ready.

Perfect Pop app - tells you when you popcorn is ready!

Voila – no burned popcorn because Perfect Pop finds the exact moment when your popcorn is ready.

It makes popping popcorn fun!

Perfect Pop app - tells you when you popcorn is ready!

With the popcorn popped, we have to pick a movie but have a bit of a problem when it comes to choosing.

You see, my hubby loves chick flicks (don’t tell anyone!), I love a good horror movie but they’re too scary for my girls and they prefer cheesy romantic comedies!

Compromise is definitely in order when it comes to movie nights nowadays …

and at least I don’t have to watch cartoons anymore!

  1. OHH, burned popcorn is the worse! I actually had to replace my microwave because I couldn’t get the smell of burned popcorn out of it! This app would have been a lifesaver!

  2. I have burned so many bags of popcorn at work that my friend won’t let me make anymore. She follows me to the microwave and takes the bag away from me and delivers perfectly popped corn to my desk! I need the ap for when she is not there to keep everyone else from scrunching up their noses.

  3. Oh my, who among us has not burned their share of pop corn. Not a pretty sight or smell, right? Thanks for the give away.

  4. Oh yeah, I’ve burned a bag or two of popcorn 😉 Stinks up the house doesn’t it?

We also LOVE movie nights, and popcorn… they just go together so perfectly.

  5. Oh, I have burned popcorn more times that I care to admit. This would be a great app to have!!! Totally downloading it! Thanks 😉

  6. I Love popcorn. I could eat it for every meal.
I have burned many a bags of popcorn and still do.

  7. Yes, the smell of burned popcorn has filled my house many times, but I think I can say without hesitation that most of the time it has been my hubby burning it! I wonder if I can get my technology-challenged hubby to download the app?

  8. yep… burned many a bag in my day!! LOLOL… the worst is when you go to the employee “Break Room” and throw in a bag… and YES…. smell up the whole office area with burned popcorn!! ewwww!!!!! What a great idea !!!! Downloading away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Not only has a bag or two of popcorn burned at my house, but someone the microwave managed to catch on fire as well. You think a bag of popcorn makes for a stinky movie watching experience, a flaming microwave smells the house up for longer.

    Bliss

  10. Of course I’ve burned popcorn in the microwave, but it doesn’t smell nearly as bad as when my husband burns it! I am going to try this!

  11. yes – many times in the office. that microwave isn’t as powerful as my one at home so the office one is always hard to judge how much time to pop.

  12. I confess. I burned the popcorn. The worst, though, is when someone burns popcorn in the office microwave — there’s no getting rid of that smell! (On the converse, when a bag of popcorn is properly popped in the office, it’s guaranteed that the vending machine will sell out of popcorn!)

  13. HA- you bet I have. Takes a while to get it just right each time you cook it in a different microwave. Since we move a lot- there has been a lot of trial & error.

  14. Of coarse there is an app for that…….. who knew? I burn popcorn all the time, so I am excited to download this app. Thanks EV.

  15. Heck yeah I’ve burned a bag or two of popcorn! I feel like every brand of popcorn cooks differently and never matches the time they advise on the box…grrr…

  16. Oh yes! I have burnt popcorn and it smells terrible! Every microwave seems to have different settings and requires personal attention!

  17. Oh heavens, better question is whether or not one has made a perfect bag of popcorn! What’s up with that?

  18. Phew!! Stinky burned popcorn. My hubby has burned more than he has ever eaten. Have to open up all windows/doors & turn on ceiling fans.

  19. Oh, more than once I have burned a bag of pop corn in the microwave. It’s easy to do if you don’t
get the setting right or walk away from it 🙂

  20. Yes I have burned my bag of popcorn quite a few times over the years.
It is a real drag when it is the last bag in the box so this app is a great idea!

  21. Oh the smell of the burnt popcorn bag in the break room! But I used to date a guy that LOVED popcorn charred. He’d get his marshmallows for s’mores all crispy and black too. Weird huh? Great giveaway Kelly! Thank you!

  22. I’m always so afraid of burning the bag of popcorn that I tend to take it out too soon, thus having lots of unpopped kernels. OY!

  23. I have burned popcorn several times, just enough so the popcorn was just a little burnt, but not enough where smoke was pouring out of the microwave.

  24. Seriously? An app that tells you when your popcorn is done?! How did our ancestors ever survive without iPhones and iPads? 😉

I’ve burned just about every food I’ve cooked at least once, including popcorn 🙂

  25. It’s been quite awhile since I burned popcorn, but then again I don’t make it that often. I usually get my fix at the movie theater. Yum!

  26. I see your hubby survived those early years of popcorn for dinner. lol Don’t sign me up for the giveaway-I have won several giveaways already this year- xo Diana

  27. Yes and I don’t like it….but what I really would like is to be smart enough to make and sell an app like the pop!
    Dj

  28. What a fun app!!! I have to try this because yes, I’ve burned SO many bags of popcorn. Not sure why, well, a few times I put it in upside down. You know how it says “This side up to pop”? They really mean that. Thanks for the fun post and give away!

  29. I remember burning popcorn with an old fashioned popper ( so I’m telling my age) in a dorm room! Not only did my room smell, but my neighbors weren’t very happy.

  30. Nothing worse than anticipating the great taste of the buttery popcorn than when it comes out burnt 🙁 Yes, I’ve done so too many times getting distracted by other things in the kitchen.

  31. Let’s just say, alarms going off and the fire department responding to the clinic where I work, are sure signs that YES, I burned another bag of popcorn. (I seriously think those alarms are WAY TOO SENSITIVE!) : )

  32. Yes I did a few times but there was usually enough popcorn that isn’t too burned to eat. I hate burning it because I am getting ready to watch a movie and it ruins everything!

  33. We’ve certainly burned our share of popcorn — usually in a microwave that didn’t quite pop it, so we put it in “a little longer” and voila: burned it! Usually can’t even eat the good stuff because it smells burnt, too. GRRRR

  34. I’ve burnt popcorn so many times, too many epic stories to tell, I actually just burned popcorn the other day because my son got me sidetracked! What a stinky smell, it made the smoke alarm go off and my microwave still stinks!!

  35. I have burned many, many bags of microwave popcorn. Many. I don’t trust the popcorn button on the microwave. I don’t trust the info on the bag of popcorn. It really takes a long time to get rid of that burned popcorn smell doesn’t it? A long time. I finally just gave up and pop my popcorn the old fashioned way – in a pan with oil on the bottom and “shake, shake, shake!”

  36. I can remember burning a bag of popcorn so badly from accidentally putting an extra zero in the timer and having yellowed the inside of the microwave permanently with a nice burnt smell to go along with it!

  37. Well I’ve burned a bag of popcorn maybe once or twice, but my husband insists on repopping unpopped kernels after eating the whole bag. He does this every single time and about 75% of the time he burns them. Drives me crazy!

  38. I have burnt a few bags of popcorn, I have learned to listen untill the popcorn is almost done popping and then I stop the microwave.

  39. Why, Yes…. in truth I have burned a bag or 3 in my time; I learned to be more watchful & less wasteful… 😉

  40. I have burned popcorn too many times to count, it set off the smoke alarm each and every time. It always got me to think if it’s me or our microwave.

  41. I have memories that are over 2 decades old of the acrid odor of burned microwave popcorn emanating from the break room at work. Back then, we couldn’t even have imagined the existence of an app like this!

  42. I can’t believe someone came up with this app! We have burned many bags of popcorn. Or else you don’t let it pop long enough and have 50% kernels unpopped.

  43. I have burned popcorn from time to time. So frustrating!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  44. Yes, I’ve burned many a bag of popcorn with the smoke detector going off which requires me to stand on a chair in order to hush it.

  45. I burnt popcorn once, so badly that I burnt the inside of the microwave–for weeks no matter what I made in the microwave it stank like burnt popcorn. It was bad!

  46. I burnt a bag of popcorn so badly it set off the smoke alarms! The house smelled for almost a day afterwards!

  47. I’ve only burned one bag. It was so bad I swore I wouldn’t do it again so now I hover near the microwave to make sure it doesn’t burn.

  48. Popping corn as a treat for children attending summer school-every bag burned! Not only was the smell horrible, but there was no treat to give them.

  49. Yes, I burnt a bag once at work, in the break room. It stunk up the whole building. So embarrassing!

  50. i’ve actually never burned popcorn, but my husband has. it takes forever to get the stink out of the house

  51. Unfortunately I have burned popcorn. Seriously don’t know how since I was listening to the pops and stopped when I was instructed to. Smoked the kids right out of the kitchen and some of the popcorn wasn’t even popped at the bottom of the bag.

  52. Yes! I burnt a bag of popcorn when I was a teacher. It smelled up the whole school. I was so embarassed.

  53. Filled the house with smoke when I left the popcorn on too long. I set the wrong time (no Popcorn button back then) and then forgot about it! At least it didn’t start on fire 😀

  54. One night the man of the house decided he really needed popcorn. Hit the timer on the microwave. Hit 3300, not 330. By the time he finally smelled it, well let’s just say it might have been easier to buy a new microwave!

  55. None of my kernels were popping on a really old bag of popcorn. Figured I’d put it in for about 30 seconds longer. Bad choice. Stinky kitchen for 2 days. Obviously, popcorn was bad at that point.

  56. When I burn a bag of popcorn, it ends up in the trash. I can’t even fathom eating it. My worst popcorn burning story is I burned a bag of popcorn. When I looked inside, all of the pieces were black and sort of stuck together. It makes me wonder how close it was to catching on fire! I now realized that my microwave was on the fritz…

    rainpendragon2684[at]yahoo[dot]com

  57. I have burned popcorn where some pieces are burnt and others aren’t but unfortunately it makes all the pieces taste bad!

    motioncitycutie(at)aol(dot)com

  58. I think everyone has burned popcorn at least once, its so easy to do even with a popcorn button on the microwave.

  59. I put popcorn in for 30 minutes instead of 3 minutes and went downstairs to do some laundry. By the time I smelt it, I didn’t make it upstairs before the smoke alarms started going off. My kitchen reaked for days!

  60. Of course, hasn’t almost everyone? I have only done it a couple of times though because the stench of it made me learn quick not to do it again.

  61. Yes I have. I hate the smell of burnt popcorn. It was even worse when I was pregnant, I’d get sick everytime my husband tries to make me some and failed, lol.

  62. Unfortunately I have. I hate to do it because it makes the whole house stink. lol thank you!
    crystalfaulkner2000 at yahoo dot com

  63. I used to burn bags of popcorn all the time because I would hit the “popcorn” button on the microwave and not watch it. Now, I NEVER burn popcorn because I always pull it out when I still hear kernels popping at the end.

  64. yes ive burnt popcorn before and it was really gross so i just threw it out

  65. We have a small cafe at work and when I burn a bag of popcorn everyone scrambles out real quick. It stinks for days
    dolniaks at consolidated dot net

  66. I’ve burned popcorn at work and the smell is horrible and lingers for days. I can’t try the app because I don’t have a smart phone.

    Thanks for the contest.

  67. Yep, I’ve burned some. I won’t share how often. 😉

  68. We have between my kids and me burnt popcorn so many times.
I guess we still haven’t mastered the perfect setting on the microwave not even the button marked popcorn is correct 🙂 and I would love to try the app I have recently been going app crazy on my kindle.

  69. Ah, yes burned popcorn. It’s happened in the house on many occasions. The smell lingers in the house for days—YUCK!!
