7 Classic Chairs for Today

August 28, 2013  Decorating | Uncategorized

Classic Chairs for Today - these stand the test of time ... with style! kellyelko.com

Sometimes I wish furniture shopping was like clothes shopping?

When the weather turned, instead of buying a new pair of jeans or boots …

we’d be able to buy a new dining table or chandelier.

Unfortunately, we can’t redesign our homes every season.

But a girl can dream!

I got my dining room chairs 15 years ago.

“I have to have these and I won’t be happy with anything else”, I pouted to my hubby.

So we got them …

and I still love them but now I also long for a set of Tolix chairs, classics that date back to the 1930’s, around my farmhouse table …

or maybe a set of Thonet bentwood chairs (around since 1859), painted a bright color.

Ever since I scored one for my foyer, I’ve been dreaming of a set of Danish modern chairs around my farmhouse table.

I’ve always consider the Windsor chair too formal for my taste …

that is until I saw them in this dramatic black dining room!

Ghost chairs would be fun too.

French bistro chairs have me saying ooh la la!

Faux bamboo chairs (not to mention that capiz shell chandelier) have me swooning.

What’s your favorite?

I love the style of all the chairs shown. We used to have chairs I considered “pretty” but we never used the dining room cause my hubby said un-comfy chairs ruined a good meal. So we replaced those chairs about 10 years ago with leather parson chairs and I’m still “stuck” with them today cause I can’t find anything else hubby is willing to sit in for a meal and since we’ve turned our formal dining room into our daily dining space I sort of need him to be able to sit at the table 😉 The bistro chairs look like they could satisfy on the comfort issue and I have one antique windsor chair identical to the ones pictured and it is sooooo comfy, so hope remains that I will come up with something {soon} to replace my current chairs.

You may not like this but I LOVE the chairs you have right now. All the selections are very pretty. I really like that black dining room and the Windsor chairs. They look very sophisticated. Good luck deciding!

I like lots of these looks too, but now I’m about comfy so the French Bistro. The chairs you have now could have a whole different look with color , I like that style too maybe add an upholstered seat?

Thanks for the primer on chairs. I’ve never known a chair’s style. It was fun to recognize a few and learn some new!. I love your existing chairs! Also, the Windsors are to die for.

I’m all about bamboo chairs at the moment. I also have a thing for chairs, and for a long time I was on the hunt for French provincial. Now that I’ve scored those, I’ve moved on to bamboo 🙂 I am also digging your Danish modern one.

    Kelly,

I love your chairs and can see why you had to have them. My favorite chairs in the photos are the bentwood and the tolix chairs. I love mixing the industrial metal chairs with the wood. Can’t wait to see what you will come up with because I can tell you are craving some change around that dining room table of yours.

I love the bamboo chairs! So much so I am sanding & spraying 10 of them for my dining table. They are hard to come by in Australia second hand but I was lucky to get 10. You can buy them new but they are only black and white & expensive, $500-1000 AUD a chair
