All that Glitters Isn’t Gold – Thrift Shop Makeovers

January 9, 2013  I Scored at the Thrift Store | Uncategorized

Like those gals that travel thousands of miles to the Today show, hoping against all hope that Hoda and Kathie Lee will pluck them from the crowd for a much needed and well deserved makeover, my glitzy, gaudy, gold headboard needs an intervention.

I’ll take this thrift shop girl from the 70’s, in all her feathered hair, knee high socks in roller skates with pom poms, to a glamour puss fit to walk the catwalk in Milan.

IMG_1878

She’ll live happily ever after in her very own room with it’s loft like exposed brick and she’ll welcome guests who come to visit.

They’ll ooh and ahh her and she’ll blush and remember her disco dancing days and wonder how she got so lucky.

IMG_1881

Then she’ll welcome the other misfits who reside in the room with her.

She’ll ride off into the sunset on her handsome steed, after his own spray painted makeover.

IMG_1882

She may even fall madly in love with this dashing bull fighter and they’ll reminisce about the days when paint by numbers were all the rage.

IMG_1902

So I’ll be working my magic like Louis Licari and when I get through with them, they will turn towards that full length mirror and cry in astonishment.

This room is still getting beautified – but you can check out my house tour here where all the rooms are ready for their close up.

The headboard is beautfiul but I must say, the PBN Bull Fighter REALLY caught my attention. I am a huge collector of those – especially if someone signed them – and I have never seen that particular one. It’s a beautiful addition to your room.

I can hardly wait to see what you do with that headboard!!
My local thrift shop has the same headboard and matching foot board…they’ve been there for a while now and every time I walk past them I tell myself to stop being so cheap and fork over the $15 !

So much fun to take a Thrift Store find and make it look beautiful and much loved … you do such a great job with that and your stories are so much fun to read. Most of all, I love the architectural piece used as a mirror.

Not only are you a talented shopper and “remake” artist {can’t wait to see all the glam afters} but you can gild your prose and style a post storyline like a pro 🙂 You’re just so fun! Robin

Love it all. Ooo, especially that mirror. I am solid gold kind of gal myself. I used to dream of being one of the dancers. I am sure your disco diva headboard will look oh so chic in that room when you are finished with her makeover. Tip, you may want to discourage the sparkly blue eye liner. In case she asks for it. That is not making a come back.

Oh my word! Love the head board…my daughter was recently the recipient (she and her hubby) of a very ’70’s headboard– not gold, but some awful simulated wood YUCK… I think it has great potential in the right hands and the right hands can get themselves around the cap of a good can of spray paint… but, I’ve gotten off track here.
I’ve been away over a week…and after reading this post and clicking away and coming back, I’ve decided what I really want to talk about, and am getting around to telling you in my oh so long winded way, is the POM POMS! (unlike Arlo Guthrie…who came to talk about the draft…)
Oh my sweet pink goodness! those are too cute! And world peace they SHOULD BRING!!!!
I was thinking…while I love color…these little POM POMS would look so interesting in golden grass type of color too! Perhaps Crayola ® would call it Amber Waves of Grain….?

The ideas are endless…and the mind doesn’t rest!
Did I tell you Happy new year friend? I don’t think I made it this way… so with that,
HAPPY NEW YEAR! LOVE READING ECLECTICALLY VINTAGE! here’s to another year of fantastic fun and good reading… your humble bloggy friend, Pat
