Coming in Hot – Volume 3
I’ve got some exciting news this week and I’m also sharing some never before seen peeks into my garden with my favorite shade loving perennials, and lots more. Let’s go!
CIAO BELLA – I’M HEADED TO ITALY!
I still can’t believe that I’ll be staying here for one week (I’m still planning the second weeks accommodations)!
I’ve been dying to go to Puglia (prounced poo·lee·uh) for years! This region is in Italy’s “Boot” and it has everything one would want on a vacation (history, charming towns, beaches, wineries, great food and wine and more).
I’m happy to report that I managed to plan this trip pretty quickly and I’ll be headed there in a couple of months! I’ll share everything with you when I return.
I like to pack light … a carry on suitcase and this gorgeous duffel bag (it’s also my weekender bag) that holds a ton. It’s a two week trip so I need to be smart about what I bring. Luckily, it will be warm there so I won’t have to worry about packing anything too bulky.

Speaking of Italy, the last time I was there was in 2018 when we took our girls to Rome, Venice and Positano for their high school graduation. I don’t think I ever shared it here on the blog as I was too busy stuffing my face with pasta and wine!
Here’s one of my favorite pics I snapped while in Venice. Could it be any more perfect? Goldelier in striped shirt + stunning green door = picture perfect moment!
THE PERFECT SHADE BORDER
Planting this shade border in the narrow strip between my house and driveway almost killed me! I pulled out so many HUGE rocks and it was truly back breaking work. But it was all worth it because these shade loving hostas and astilbe never fail to wow.
Tip: Cut them completely down to the ground in the fall.
THE UNICORN OF WHITE JEANS!
I don’t know about you but finding the perfect white jeans that are flattering (I love the wide legs), affordable, and don’t cling to my cellulitely thighs is hard!
The (under $30) Perfect White Jeans Here
And forget what they say about no white after Labor Day. These jeans look equally good paired with my gauzy green shirt as they will when paired with a black sweater and boots for fall.
And of course, no Coming in Hot post would be complete without an update on Sushi! She is absolutely loving (can’t you tell?!) the “I still live with my mom” dog shirt that my sister gave her!
Have a wonderful weekend. It’s going to be in the high 80’s here in NJ which is a welcome relief from the 95+ weather we’ve been having!
If you enjoy these weekly recaps, you can read them all below (and more coming soon) …
Love Sushi’s shirt so cute. Congratulations on going to Italy, never been there so send us lots of pictures. You look so cute in those white jeans, wearing them after Labor day is fine with me!
I’m so excited Marlene and will make sure I share picture overload of Italy with you!
Planning a trip to Italy next September that includes Puglia so I look forward to your updates (especially Lecci that my Italian girlfriend recommended and Giadia likes). Love those pants. Still getting used to the wide leg and what shoes look good with them
How exciting Mary! My second week, I’ll be staying about 10 minutes outside of Lecce so I will keep you posted!
Hi Kelly, The hostas are gorgeous. My daughter has been traveling this summer and went to Italy, Turkey, Greece and more with some fellow teachers. They pack very light. Her friend whose done this before planned the trip.
Your daughter is one lucky girl and her trip sounds fabulous Pat! I want to go to Greece one day!
Sushi’s shirt is so cute! Looks like a beautiful place. Hope you have a fabulous time this fall. Also do you have trouble with deer eating your hostas?
Red is definitely Sushi’s color Marsha! I get a few deer in my yard occasionally but they don’t really bother my hostas although some of my friends hostas get eaten up!
Hi Kelly, so happy for your upcoming trip. My sweetie got me a cruise to Croatia, I’m thrilled as well. Travel is an amazing experience.
I want to go to Croatia Kelly! What an amazing gift – enjoy your trip!
I love your bedspread!!! Please share where I can find.
Hi Mechelle! My duvet cover is from Anthro but it’s sold out! I found the same one (says it’s new without tags) here: https://bit.ly/46hOFSx
So exciting for you getting to visit Italy! Have so much fun Kelly! Sushi’s shirt is precious!
