Eclectic Home Tour – Home Ec
I love seeing how interior designers decorate their own houses and this home shouts from the rooftops that the owners love vintage, eclectic, colorful, thrifted, personality filled and one of a kind interiors. See how Home Ec Interior Design turned her home into a true reflection of her and her family.
This is the Victorian home of interior designer, Natalie, and her family in Oak Park, IL.
Says Natalie, “I personally love the eclectic feel of combining vintage with modern. It gives a room soul and personality to incorporate a well-loved vintage credenza with a sleek modern table lamp, for example. Combining modern lets you play around with trends, but the vintage pieces are what bring a real sense of timelessness to our designs.
For me, interior design is most interesting when it incorporates pieces of yourself. Your hobbies, interests, art, certain colors, styles…they all reflect you and that’s what makes a well-designed home feel personal. But I truly have a passion for color and art, and in interior design, those combinations are endless!”
You know you’re in for a unique tour as soon as you step into the foyer! White walls let the colorful red poppy wallpaper be the star.
An antique glassware collection shows off in an old hutch given new life with a blue paint job. Vintage portraits pop up all over the house.
I love this combination of pottery, paintings, plants and poufs against soothing blue walls.
Can you give me a hand? No, I mean I really want that green hand chair and love the way it looks under a vibrant red painted ceiling.
Mostly white frames keep this eclectic gallery wall looking cohesive and I love that there are some random objects like a mask and old sign for added interest.
You know a house is kid friendly when you see gym rings hanging from the ceiling!
You can really get a sense of who lives her just by peeking into this room.
Most people would hang paintings of fruit but these portraits add an unexpected touch to the blush pink kitchen.
Upstairs, a large attic space doubles as a playroom and the kitchenette is perfect for popping popcorn for family movie nights.
Wood walls and beams warm up white walls where colorful green cabinets and furniture are the stars.
A black ceiling in the master bedroom lends a cozy vibe with interior doors painted to match.
Natalie has a thing for hands as can be seen from her vintage green hand chair and this fun graphic wallpaper.
Yellow is such a happy color for a little girls room and I love the way the floral wallpaper envelopes the daybed.
Can you spot another hand in this bedroom?
More portrait paintings from floor to ceiling really liven up the room and I love the wood artists palette hung among them.
This home was so fun to feature and I encourage you to really let your personality shine through your decorating choices.
Natalie is renovating her new home in Charlotte, NC so be sure to follow along at Home Ec Interior Design.

What an artistic home of colour! Beautifully appointed. MacKenzie-Childs decor would fit right in here with all the great colours and patterns. Thanks for the vibrant post! Allison
Yes, some whimsical MacKenzie Childs would be perfect in this home Allison!
OMG beautiful!!! Can you share your color pallet? I love this home! What paint sheen do you use? I’m thinking I’ll do matte to cover up imperfections.
