Patio Makeover – My Backyard Oasis

May 11, 2016  Decorating | Outdoors | Uncategorized

Beautiful patio makeover! See how I transformed my patio with the right outdoor furniture, accessories, plants and flowers.

When we renovated our house seven years ago, we added a beautiful blue stone patio.

I’ve always envisioned my patio would one day become an outdoor oasis – the perfect place to escape with an ice cold lemonade (margaritas on the weekend!) and a good book.

The perfect place to host backyard bbq’s, family dinners and late night s’more fests.

My yard has great bones but my patio definitely needed some serious attention.

Remember when I shared my vision for my patio in this post (including before pictures).

Love this before and after patio makeover - it's such a lush tropical oasis kellyelko.com

My patio makeover all started with this comfy outdoor sectional sofa. It’s the perfect size, can seat tons of friends (my hubby and I can both lay down stretched out without even a toe touching each other), and is upholstered in durable Sunbrella fabric.

The giant cantilevered umbrella provides plenty of shade.

Coastal pillows and throw from HomeGoods make it extra cozy.

Love this patio - the huge sectional sofa and concrete coffee table make it feel like an indoor room kellyelko.com

Since I don’t have a covered patio, an umbrella is mandatory and this giant cantilevered umbrella is perfect because I can place it behind the sofa, out of the way, but still get shade when I need it.

I love this indoor/outdoor coffee table that looks like concrete! It’s huge surface allows me to set out a big spread with room left over for a fun centerpiece and plenty of space to rest a cocktail.

Love this patio! The concrete coffee table is beautiful and the sectional sofa is a cozy place to curl up kellyelko.com

Let’s get this party started! My husbands favorite thing is this plant cart turned bar/buffet cart. It holds a ton and I love the steel top and casters so it can be easily moved around.

A three tiered tray from HomeGoods is perfect for holding glasses and other bar essentials.

What took me so long to hide my ugly air conditioners? These lattice privacy screens could not be easier to install – just insert the metal spikes into the ground and you’re done.

Hide an ugly air conditioning unit with these simple to install lattice privacy screens (just stake them into the ground - easy)! kellyelko.com

Three huge whiskey barrel planters define the space. I placed three of them on the patio – two at the corners and one in the middle.

Love these giant whiskey barrel planters filled with palm trees - three lined up on a patio really define the space kellyelko.com

Palm trees sway in the breeze and make me feel like I’m in the Caribbean instead of New Jersey! I planted two in each end pot with white petunias that will soon trail down the sides of each container.

I think I’ll order caftans in every color and lounge around my new patio oasis – I may only go inside to refresh the ice in my margarita.

Kelly, Wow, It looks so comfy and amazing. Will you bring the pillows in or leave them outside? I can’t wait to see your caftans. Pat S

I am going to get furniture covers Pat so I can cover the sofa/cushions when it rains. I don’t want to ruin my caftans running out in a downpour!

Love it all! I love the soothing colors with the blue stone patio. Where did you get your throw pillows? I love them and have been looking for some beachy accents.

It’s fantastic now! Mine has the same issue – good bones and that’s about it. I’m afraid it will be staying that way, but I think I see a new concrete patio table in my future. But in that vision are the leaves green or falling in autumn colors?

You’re having visions? That’s a whole different issue we have to deal with!

What a beautiful back deck. I just love the big umbrella hovering over the seating area. I notice you had some palms out there. You know what else that would look good elephant ears. On the back side of those little bushes or the corner of your seating area. And I would die for your flag stone at my place. Good job my lady.

I have the same sectional, which I ordered directly from AE Outdoors. I see your original post was a few years ago. How have your cushions held up? I find that mine are less cushy and I’m considering replacing them.

Hi Sarah! I love the sectional and the cushions have held up very well! We take them inside most nights and during wet weather.
